ROLLING RIDGE FOUNDATION RECIEVES GRANT FROM EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA

The Rolling Ridge Foundation (RRF)  is pleased to announce it has received a $1500 grant from the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation- Two Rivers Giving Circle. These funds will support the Rocky Branch Waterfall Riparian Restoration Project.

The Rolling Ridge Foundation seeks to safeguard forested riparian habitat surrounding a beautiful waterfall on Rocky Branch Stream, near the Shenandoah River.  By planting native woodland trees, shrubs, and herbaceous vegetation along the banks, we can redirect hikers and bikers back onto the trail and stream crossing, away from the fragile stream banks and steep slopes surrounding the waterfall.   Restoring native vegetation will reduce erosion, improve wildlife habitat, and maintain the aesthetic beauty of the area for future visitors.  Volunteers of all ages engaged in planting, habitat restoration, and trail development can learn about sensitive riparian habitats and how to care for them.  We believe that hands-on conservation activities are the most effective way to promote environmental knowledge and stewardship.
