In April, timber harvesting was completed, and trails are open again. We have already begun observing positive signs of regeneration of Red Oak species, among many others.
Related to the timbering, volunteers have helped clear and regrade trails that were impacted by the harvesting process. They have also spent time reseeding areas of the cut with wildflowers. We hope for rain so that they can become well-established, and we will continue to monitor the progression from work site to regenerated forest.
Other volunteer work has been focused on invasive species management with Japanese Spiraea. We are also currently harnessing the “volunteerism” of a herd of goats to eat the Spiraea before it flowers and sets seed.
Thank you to all our two- and four-legged volunteers!
